Hi, I am building a small micro-atx/mini-itx build with an ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Impact motherboard.  The problem is that the case has a front i/o of one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 pots.  The motherboard only comes with an internal 3.0 USB header.  Is there any way to put an add-in card or split the internal header to work with both the 3.0 and 2.0 ports?

I have been looking at this http://www.moddiy.com/products/20%252dPin-USB-3.0-Internal-Header-Y-Splitter-Cable-%2812cm%29.html  and this http://www.amazon.com/CablesOnline-20-Pin-Motherboard-Adapter-USB3-AD24/dp/B00E42A4L0 but I have been hearing that if I split the USB 3.0 header I am liable to cause conflicting device address issues.

Any advice would be helpful!

I am also considering a cable which has a 3.0 internal header connector and two male ports so I can just replace two of the case connectors and just cover the last spot, since I haven't been able to find a connector with with more than one split. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB3SPNLAFHD-Panel-Mount-Cable/dp/B006PHY0GM/ref=pd_sim_147_14?ie=UTF8&dpID=41wadG7pU7L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1C1K55734X0PVBJMYRME

Lol, you chose the exact same splitter I had in my post  .

The problem I am afraid of is if there is going to be any device address issues if I use up all 3 of the front i/o ports.  If there are none, then I'd gladly get the splitter and a 3.0 to 2.0 usb cable.

lol I realize that now I should've paid more attention  sorry bout that

But yeah you can add a PCIe card with an internal USB 3.0 header and use an adapter on either that or the motherboard header for the front USB 2.0

I wooooould, but since the VIII Impact is a mini-itx, it really only has one pci-e slot (for my low-profile gpu), and little else.  The only other ports it has are extra fan headers, a u.2 port, and 4 sata 6gb/s.  No other connectors for pci extensions.

Have you already purchased the motherboard? I actually have this same case and prefer the look of a mATX board and the connectors are further towards the edge of the case which makes cable management easier in this oddly laid out case. Finding a new front I/O would be a major pain in the butt. Another option, albeit not the most attractive solution, is to run a USB type A to 9-pin header cable from the outside of your case to the inside through an expansion slot or one of the grommets. Here is a link to the kind of adapter I'm referring to: http://www.moddiy.com/products/USB-9%252dPin-Internal-Motherboard-Male-Header-to-USB-Type%252dA-Adaptor.html?gclid=CjwKEAiA1o-zBRDomsWasvKh4S8SJADSlZkqnLvjLZDSF4PcFd1beyN02ne7ww6bd_adTa2r5BTXIRoCT1fw_wcB

You could use this (http://www.amazon.com/CablesOnline-20-Pin-Motherboard-Adapter-USB3-AD24/dp/B00E42A4L0), Think that board has two usb 3 headers. So you could use one of the headers for usb 3 and use that adapter on the other usb 3 header. This one is a 8 pin usb 2.

Here is a 9 pin usb 2 one: http://www.amazon.com/SIENOC-USB3-0-Female-Motherboard-Adapter/dp/B00O0HC3Y0/ref=pd_cp_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=08XG1BT9A63WDXW7FXT1
