I have researched further into Windows and I have decided that Windows 7 Home Premium would be the best for me, I have found a website that looks trustworthy that I can buy it from (will put link at the end because it is long), since both of my USB sticks have stuff for my Youtube and Schoolwork, I can't use those, so I also found a place I can buy another USB that has the ISO on it, what do you think of that?

At this point Windows 7 is obsolete, a lot of peripherals and applications have dropped support for anything prior to Windows 7 (although some Windows 8 drivers might work).

Not to mention than Home Premium is lackluster when it comes to features, imo.

Making a USB bootable with an iso can be done with free software, but windows 7 pro is better imo, especially if you have more than 16GB of ram as it won't work in that case, I still hate 10 though regardless

Do you think I should do the same thing but with Windows 8/8.1 Home Premium? I like the simplicity of Windows 7 but now I'm not so sure

What do you mean by having more than 16GB of RAM won't work? I have exactly 16GB, will that be fine? Also, what do you use?

Or just get Windows 8.1 for a low price and upgrade to Windows 10 which is 6 years newer and better in every way.

The bolded part is debatable at best, plus he could use 7 to upgrade as well, and 7 is better than 8 for desktop usage

I've heard that Windows 10 prevents from modding steam games (Fallout 4, Skyrim, The Witcher), as a mod creator this would be quite a big problem, is this true?

I know about Rufus and all of that, I think Windows 7 Pro would be a good call for me at the moment, I could always upgrade to Windows 10 later if I didn't like Windows 7.

I agree and have done the same, you have til july to make up your mind, so there is no reason not to get 7 over 10, as it is also cheaper

bullpoop.

Modding will work just fine. Both using and creating. Worked on a couple Skyrim mods for myself and it worked just fine. Waiting on GECK to get into Fallout 4 modding for now.

I got mine directly from microsoft but you need a product key first to do that (I just took one off a crappy old computer}

Or you could go to a torrent site as @Blebekblebek said as the ISOs are not illegal to download from anyone (it's the keys that matter)

LOL What? This is just as bad as the claim that people were saying back in Vista, where Vista would block all MP3's from playing. Man the crap that those anti-MS group comes out with to create fear, in the hope you switch to MacOS or Linux based OS. Wow.

You have to be careful with the amount of crap is said on the web.

Anyway, you can do what you want in Windows 10, like under Windows 8, and Windows 7, with the exception of drivers, where if your drivers are old, Windows update will force install the latest one (there is a tool from Microsoft to hide the update until next version is released). The problem is that Microsoft is sick and tired with people refusing to install Windows updates, including not upgrading Service Packs, sticking with the clearly inferior Windows 8 instead of upgrading to 8.1. Biggest problem is when you have these people never updating Windows, and they are infected with malware/virus, and their computers are now a bot, infecting others, being part of DDOS attacks, and Microsoft, despite releasing a fix to remove the infection and fix the security hole which the malware uses, can't, because people don't just blocks updates.

It is a serious problem, sadly, so because of these people, it is forced updates for everyone.

Windows 7 is not obsolete. Windows 10 is more obsolete right now than Windows 7 because fewer things run well on Windows 10 than on Windows 7. Windows 7 will continue to be supported by Microsoft until 2020, so it's just halfway passed its support life.

There is hardly any difference between Windows 10 and 7, and most of what is different is better on Windows 7. When Windows 7 becomes obsolete, then so will much of Windows 10, because the parts that are relevant are the same on both OSes.

If you're a gamer, Windows 7 has better support for a greater number of games at this time, and will continue to receive good game support that keeps it equally relevant as Windows 10.

The Windows 10 fanboys on this forum are not helping anyone when they make ridiculous and untruthful claims about Windows 7 vs 10.

I have Windows 7 and 10 installed, and I've been using Windows 10 for most of the past 2 months, but have recently gone back to Windows 7, which I think is overall a better OS that is less restricted, is just as good performing as Windows 10, and has a more intelligent layout, with a more comfortable visual design.

Both Windows 10 and 7 are near identical, but where they're different, I think that Windows 7 has the advantage. One advantage is that in Windows 7 the user can block the spy updates from downloading and installing, while there's no way to prevent that snoop-ware in Windows 10. Windows 10 also has bugs, and in the 2 - 3 months that I've used it, I've experienced multiple BSOD's. Windows 10 user interface also has no dimension to it, and I find it hard on the eyes, and distractingly ugly.

Also, if you get Windows 7, you simultaneously get a free Windows 10 license for free when you take advantage of the free upgrade. If you plan to use Windows 7, I recommend upgrading to Windows 10 just to register your license as Windows 10 compatible, and then reinstalling Windows 7. Then you can install Windows 10 using your Windows 7 license at any point in the future, if you ever have a reason to use it.

Or just get Windows 8.1 for a low price and upgrade to Windows 10 which is 6 years newer and better in every way.

It's actually the same in every way - except for the areas in which its worse.

What the hell is technical support, as update support continues til 2020

Yeah, Windows 7 is as supported today as it was last year. The only difference between its support now and 3 years ago is that there no more free telephone technical assistance, and it isn't likely to receive any major new features (although the new spyware MS sent through as an automatic recommended update is a somewhat major new feature - just a bad one, which thankfully can be blocked in Windows 7, but not in Windows 10).

Who would have thought a technical PC forum could be one of the places most uninformed and dispersing of misinformation about PC software?

Just has to be legit, and if it is already activated, you have to deactivate it on the computer that it originated on (like in my case) otherwise just torrent the iso, and activate it via the key while installing
