Power Supply Surges

Go to solution Solved by NeatSquidYT,

I'd replace that PSU ASAP anyways...

Hi, lately I've been running into a problem where running a specific game (Metro 2033 Redux) has caused my PC to reboot out of nowhere. A screen pops up saying that there was a power surge and that my PC restarted to avoid further damage. This never used to happen and has begun to occur more frequently in the last few days as I'm beginning to see it happen in more of my games. However so far it is only affecting Metro and it very rarely occurs in Guild Wars 2. My PSU is a Coursair 650VS (650W) and is currently powering a Geforce GTX 970, 2x4GB RAM, Intel Core i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz and an ASUS Z-97K motherboard. Is this a sign that my PSU is beginning to age? Do I have to replace it? And is there a way to overcome this issue, I would prefer to avoid replacement. Also I tried updating my graphics drivers which I thought would have alleviated the problem, however it still persists.

Thanks

P.S: The PSU is two years old. The rest of my kit was bought and assembled in January this year.

EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750 before it takes down everything with it, 970, i5... Uh..:Scary when people build new pc's with old psu's. =/

You don't need 750W. I'd say go with a G2 650 if you want an amazing PSU (although overkill) or a SuperFlower HX550.

I saw it more as breathing room for new upgrades. He could even get away with 550.

Hmm okay I'll start looking for a replacement power supply power. Thanks for the advice; if there are any reliable power supply manufacturers I'd to hear your opinion :)

Manufacturers are not usually 100% reliable (though seasonic doesn't have a bad one I know of) look at tier 1 and 2 in the link in my sig (the thing below this post)

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/ Tier Breakdown (My understanding)--1 Godly, 2 Great, 3 Good, 4 Average, 5 Meh, 6 Bad, 7 Awful

EVGA basically got the market rocking with the best electrical components you can get. They got fully mod PSU, gold 80+, amazingly quiet, great selection of wattage, and 7 year warranty on the supernova's I believe.
