So I have an interesting problem. So I'm picking parts for my pc, and the motherboard I what to use only uses ddr4 2133, but I've found ddr4 2400 for about $20 cheaper then the ddr4 2133. So what I was wondering is if I can underclock the ddr4 2400 to work with my motherboard.

Are you sure the MOBO isn't supporting DDR3 only? Which MOBO?

Funny, I've actually encountered this before where 1866 costs $10 less than the 1600. Which mother board is it that uses specifically 2133? I remember looking into my BIOS and I'm able to clock mine down from 1600MHz to 1333MHz.

by default, the RAM is 2133 in the UEFI. only until you manually change the

settings or use the XMP profile to reconfig the timings, the default is 2133 MHz.

Yea, even if your ram is a higher clock rate, it is 2133 @ default I presume. You would have to switch to XMP mode and tweak it to the rated speed of the RAM if you wish.

you dont need to underclock it

you can set it to XMP in the UEFI and it will work

just go to the "memory compatibility list" on the motherboard product page and you will see all the memory it has been tested with

for example, my sabertooth mark s says

4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 1866/1600/1333 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel Memory Architecture

but in the compatibility list it has been validated with ram up to 3000 and 3200MHz and it works
