Storage speed question

Go to solution Solved by Thermite,

At what workload?

Copying about 5GB's of tv shows. About 20 or so different videos all together.

I have a vertex 4 from ocz that I picked up a few years ago now, and a pretty new samsung 840 evo ssd. I was doing a simple test and found that my vertex 4 which I'm pretty sure is much older than the evo drives is actually faster. Can someone tell me why the vertex 4 might be faster than a newer 840 evo drive. Both use the sata 6Gb/s connector.

This is my opinion, it doesn't mean I'm right and is liable to change at any time. I may offend of which I apologize in advance.

Age of a drive does not necessarily determine its speed and neither does the SATA generation. Just because they're both SATAIII doesn't mean they'll be equal. I mean compare a SATAIII hard drive to a SATAIII SSD.

What performance numbers are you seeing?

vertex 4 gets about 190MB/s and the evo gets about 180MB/s. I know its not a big difference I was just curious why it was slower while it was a newer drive.
