This is my recommendation http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np4650-clevo-w650sh-p-5997.html

It comes pretty close to your budget(add $80 for windows)

It has a matte 1920x1080 IPS screen so that is a really big win.

So, I'm going into high school, and my Atom N270 won't be able to hold it's own any longer, especially if I get into the tech classes I wanted. So, here it goes:

What is your maximum budget? $1000, but $800 is more realistic.

What country are you in? U.S.A

What will be the uses of this laptop? Lots of HD video (both watching and editing), a fairly large amount of gaming, lots of Office-ey things.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you? ASUS is #1, Acer and Lenovo are second best.

What screen size do you require? A 14-inch class would be perfect, 15-inch class would be acceptable as well.

What screen resolution/finish type do you require? 1920x1080 would be perfect, and a matte screen.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay? New all the way.

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet) 3 hours minimum, 5 would be freaking great, and 7....I would be your best internet friend ever.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings? Stuff like Team Fortress 2 (medium), NFS: Carbon (high), Spiral Knights (high or medium), GTA IV (medium), Far Cry 3? (medium?) and who could forget MINECRAFT....

What operating system do you need? (if any) Windows 8 would be perfect, Windows 8 Pro isn't too much different in my eyes.

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.) Nothing too flashy, really anything like a matte black (or glossy black as a last resort) would be perfect.

How much hard drive space do you need? At least 750GB, 1TB... Once again, best internet buddy.

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.) Webcam, and the more USB 3.0, the better. HDMI would be great, especially if I can adapt it to VGA and DVI. And a DVD/CD reader/writer is a necessity for me. Dual-layer DVDs and me are like best buds.

Is there anything else we need to know? I want a 4th gen Core i7, with at least the HD 4600 graphics. I pretty much need at least 8GB of RAM, and if I can upgrade to 16GB that would be fine (or if it comes with 16GB, that would be sweet). If I could get this at my local Best Buy or staples (They would be in Fort Gratiot, Michigan) I would love it, since I don't much care for it to be shipped. And if possible, a backlit keyboard is almost required... And a relatively bright screen would be pretty good.

I would recommend the Lenovo Y580. Used/refurbished ones go for $650-800, and the new/unused units usually go for $950-1100 on eBay.

It doesn't have a 4th generation Haswell Core I7, but it usually has one of the best 3rd generation Ivy Bridge mobile CPU (I7-3610QM or I7-3630QM) paired up with a GTX660M. This combo will destroy a 4th generation Haswell Core I7 laptop in terms of performance because of the lack of discrete graphics. It also comes with everything else you described such as 8GB+ RAM that is upgrade-able to at least 16GB, 750GB+ HDD, Windows 8, matte brushed aluminum casing, DVD drive, 15.6" screen that's available in 1080p, 3 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and VGA ports, backlit keyboard, and more.

This one I linked to only has 6GB of RAM, but obviously you can upgrade it, or find another unit that has at least 8GB of RAM.

I did some hunting, and I found a Toshiba Satellite P75-A. Like I said, I absolutely HATE Toshiba, and I was wondering if there was an ASUS/Acer/Lenovo equivalent.
