Hi, I have been having issues with my pc name and username since I updated to windows 10 and if someone could give advice on the issue it would be great.

When I updated to windows 10 I choose to keep nothing because I wanted to be as close to a fresh install as possible without actually doing one. So when it booted up for the first time into windows 10 I noticed my computers name had been changed to something random and so had my user name which didn't bother me at first because I use a Microsoft account to I don't see the actual account user name when I login. Now it's annoying me and I am wondering if I should do a clean install, but then will my product key work.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks

Doing a clean installation is generally good, but I think that if you do a clean install, and then use a Microsoft account again, it will do the same thing with the user name and computer name. I did several clean installs, and tried both using an MS account and not using one, and whenever I used one, I didn't have an option to set those things.

But if you do a clean install, your Win 7 / 8 product key will work, and also you can reinstall on the same hardware without using a product key, and your system hardware will already be registered for Windows 10 with Microsoft.

I will try doing a clean install. Thank you
