Hey

I am tired of the old first world problem with moving my files from my PC to a hard drive, then disconnecting the hard drive and plugging it into a TV to watch my videos.

I would like a way to have a hard drive on a network and maybe a chromcast in the TV that can connect to the hard drive. The PC, TV and Router are all in different rooms so I was hoping there was a way to connect a hard drive(s) to the router in one room and connect to it wirelessly from the PC, then watch them via the chromcast in a separate room.

I am sure there is a way to do it but it is probably only with specific NAS drives such as Synology.

Thanks

You could use a Raspberry Pi with a DLNA server running but it can be difficult to set up, or a network drive of your choice with DLNA server.

I don't know if the Chromecast supports DLNA but it should.

I just built a crappy computer, threw a ton of storage in it, connected it to the network, and it uses my TV as its display (running Kodi/XBMC). I download stuff on my desktop and transfer it of the network to MrMedia (name of my HTPC). Then all I have to do is sit down at my TV and it's there...
