Hard to choose

Go to solution Solved by DunePilot,

6700k would be fine and much cheaper than a x99 build by probably $700 or so. If you want top of the line right now go with the 5960X. 8 cores > 4 cores.

One of the two, figure out what you want and the only difference between the two builds is the motherboard and chip and figure out which price you like better. I would say for the average user the 6700k is more than enough.

Look I want to build a new gaming computer I decided that the GPU would be a 980ti and that I would get 16gb of ddr4, i want my computer to last for long so do u think I should buy a CPU now and if yes please suggest one or I wait for Intel to release new CPUs.

I want to game at max setting minimum 2k with 60fps on games like fallout 4. Sorry for disturbing.

You would be waiting for a while, get a skylake cpu now, its pretty much new (came out a couple months ago)

I disagree.

Zen is announced to come out mid 2016, also, Skylake is far too pricey right now, go X99 instead

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

any mid to high end cpu will last a while, even longer if you overclock it, you'd need a high end cpu for that gpu though, maybe a decent i5 or a i7

well, AMD is planning to release a new cpu mid 2016, but like you could get an i7 2600k and it would perform the same in games as a newer cpu

Wait about Intel they should release one in 2016

They already released a new line of cpus, go for skylake. if you always wait, then you will be waiting forever

Well I think that skylake is going to last about 3 years and I want one that would last more

Bruh, that doesnt make sense, if skylake will only last 3 years then the next gen will only last 3 years. Also my friend is still using a cpu from 2010 and still playing modern games

Right now you have Pascal coming out soon and you have DirectX12 which who knows what changes that will bring, then you have Skylake-E and Cannon Lake coming and eventually Cannon Lake-E... depending on your timelime and budget it is hard to tell you what you should do.

I'm going to build a new one and throw the old one , for the new one I will buy a gtx980ti and 16gb ddr4, my budget for the CPU only is 700

Ah, good. Burn it with fire.

I'd go X99 with that budget. Any idea of a budget for the rest for the build?

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Really so it would last more than three years

Yea, with the attitude you have, nothing will satisfy you :) AT LEAST 4 years before you notice any slowdown at ALL. Even then you can OC it and will be just fine

980TI, some kind of 6 or 8 core intel, SSD boot drive, either X99 or Skylake to go ahead and get some DDR4 to carry on to another build in a few years.
