hi,

Upgrading to Windows10 from an existing OS isn't as effective as doing a clean install. Fact.

With that being said, how do I do a clean Windows10 install? Should I download the .iso file from Microsoft and create a bootable flash usb drive and boot from it?

If that's the case, what serial code do I enter or how do I activate it?

You can use a Windows 7/8 code to activate Windows 10, just record your current activation code somewhere before you install.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

Could you cite your source, please? I'd like to learn more. I was under the impression that this is not possible. At least not globally.

Aaaaand what.....if.m..m...my previous Windows isn't really...legit?

You don't have to activate. If you don't Windows will just not allow you to access any personalization settings and you will have a watermark on the lower right hand corner of your desktop. Otherwise you will still have a fully functional OS. Just keep in mind that Microsoft can change this at any time as you will still receive updates as normal.

If you are looking for discounted keys, G2A sells windows 7 and 8 keys for ~$45.
