Why are people still recommending a G3258? Look here: http://ark.intel.com/products/87356/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3260-3M-Cache-3_30-GHz Has a higher core clock for a cheaper price. I would bet the reason is it's rarity, but that's just me. So, if anyone can tell me why people are still recommending something kind of worse, it would be appreciated.

It overclocks like a champ and is very fun to play around with.  Unlike other CPU's at that price point like the AMD Athlon 860k, the Pentium has an upgrade path to i3, i5, i7 and Xeon CPUs so many people use it as a placeholder.

i5-4690k@4.5GHz || MSI GTX 970 || MSI z97 Gaming 5 || NZXT Kraken x61 || WD Black 1TB || Crucial MX100 || 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro || Corsair RM750 || NZXT H440 || Corsair k70 RGB mx browns || Acer H236HL || ViewSonic VX2255wm-4

exactly, upgrade path is a big plus, but now ddr4 platforms are becoming the main stream. So now it makes no sense to suggest it.

It's a toy or a placeholder, not a long-term solution.

It's unlocked, so the stock speed is just a starting point, it should easily do above 4,5 GHz, but it only has 2 threads, and that causes problems in some games, I'd recommend an 860k from AMD or a low end i3 instead.

The 3260 isn't overclockable.
