Hey guys,

I will be buying a Mechanical Keyboard in the coming months and wanted some help in choosing, I live in India so my sister will be buying one for me from Boston.

I need to buy a nice Mechanical Keyboard which will be durable and reliable with Cherry MX keys, I want a Backlit keyboard with red/blue LED's, fancy lighting effects if possible! Bacically I need a good keyboard for typing so it needs to have quick response and something that I can game with as well. I don't know which brand would be nice and which switch to go for as well since there are only few mechanical keyboards available here all of which either have Cherry MX Reds or Cherry MX Blacks, mostly Cherry MX Blacks..... I cannot try them out as well so I will be buying blind, my sister can try it out in the US assuming there are good stores in Boston... I like the clicky type sound from a keyboard, I heard Cherry MX Blue's have that fell but I don't want it to be too light as well... Help me out guys. As far as budget goes something around $190 USD MAX, cant spend beyond that since the conversion rate to Indian Rupees is really really high, inclusive of taxes and what ever extra charges are there... So, help would be really appreciated!

Thanks Guys.

As far as brands go, Ducky has the best backlit mechnical keyboards in my opinion. Only problem, is they don't sell them at very many physical stores, quite frankly most of the best mechanical keyboards are only sold online.

Thanks. I was planning on the Ducky one but was not sure.... Which Cherry MX keys would I go for in your opinion?

Ducky Shine 3

Thanks. Oh ok, I'll ask my sister to have a look at all posibilities either ways, I'm sure there are stores in Boston where she can try out different Key Switches and give me her Feedback right?

Ducky Shine 3 with reds
K70 with reds

Thanks. Ok cool, aren't Reds extremely light, I tend to type with a slightly heavy hand and game with light force I will be using it more for typing than gaming, but will be gaming as well.. What is your opinion regarding that?

Thanks... any particular reason you chose the Browns? What is your opinion regrading Blues and other switches, I type with a slightly heavier hand...

I've got the Logitech G710+ as well, basically I live with other people too and the walls are really thin so I needed the quietest keyboard I could find. I'm really happy with these.

To add browns have a peak force of 55g (peak force is at the height of the tactile bump) and browns have a peak force of 60g. Also I really don't want to trash talk wise-sans guide but determining switches by what game you play is the most idiotic thing to do. Though try out all switches, I thought I had a heavy hand but I like browns more than blues and reds are somewhat equal with browns. Go try out key switches, maybe get a sampler kit from WASD keyboards, though its not the same as all 10 fingers being on a keyboard.

Ok ha ha ha, I don't really mind the noise, I kind of prefer the clickyness, but I have no clue since I have never used a mechanical keyboard till date and I will not be able to return this without shipping it back to my sister in Boston and then her reshipping it back to me.... It's a one shot!

Ok thanks for the info, but the issue is that there are literally no places I can actually try it out in India where I live and neither are Sampler kits available here, that's the issue, I will be getting it through my sister from Boston when she gets back to India. So I can ask her to try them out and give me her feedback regarding it.... I can only guide her to buy the one I think based on her feedback as to how well I might like it, she knows me well so her feedback is what I will be looking forward to but I need to guide her properly... It's a one shot deal, once she goes back to Boston, she will not be back here for a long time and shipping will cost way too much....

Highly depends on what you prefer. I myself will be getting a Ducky Shine 3 soon and I think I will be getting it with Cherry MX Browns. I thought of getting the reds but I also do quiet a bit of typing daily so brown will be a good compromise for me between typing and gaming. Take a look at this guide it may help you decide ( it also has other noteworthy things about mechanical keyboards.) LINK
