are windows 7 updates worth it? I have a problem with a new HDD. they don't work on it no matter what I tried (yes I opened topics too and nobody could help) so I decided I will keep this new HDD instead of swapping it with Toshiba brand. (current is Seagate) hoping that I will be able to fix it on my new rig. so my question is simple: Are windows 7 Updates worth it? I have to disable them from Services, if not I get 66-70% RAM usage all the time cuz they are trying to install and fail. so tell me guys at least this please :))

It's strange you're having installation issues on a new system, did you try contacting microsoft, they got it built in windows 10 it's pretty convenient

Are you sure they are not working?  If this is a brand new install of Windows 7, it is possible that they are just taking an extremely long time.  Since there are a lot of updates to apply since 7 came out, the tool can appear to be frozen for long periods of time while it searches, and you can expect the download and install to be multi-stage and also very slow.

Hmm so you're getting the update loop glitch hmm try deleting the updates it downloaded so it can try a fresh install of those updates

Assuming it's not one of these updates if it is block them  KB3075249, KB3080149 and KB3068708 (which replaces KB3022345)

well yes, I was waiting for them to start like 50 minutes at least and then I shut it off. before I had same brand and same capacity HDD, it just got worn out that's why I bought new one. never had this problem with old one. it starts update like in 1-2 mins.  it never even started update, so I don't really know what to delete

Believe it or not, it's possible that that is not enough.  I know when I recently did a new install it took many hours for all of them to complete installation.

How exactly did it get worn out?  I've never heard of any kind of physical degradation other than drives simply failing when their life span is up.  And for that matter:

I have a problem with a new HDD. they don't work on it no matter what I tried

I highly doubt any issue you are experiencing is the result of an incompatibility between your HDD and the updates.

But to finally answer the original question, yes they are worth it.  They are necessary to patch security holes and fix bugs.  If they are not installing properly and using all your RAM, that is a separate issue we should try to solve. (don't just give up on installing updates)

sorry for late answer, i went to sleep. well i know what you mean by waiting many hours for all them to complete installion. the thing is that before it was always like this but in different way. when i press check for updates, it tells me "checking for updates" and nothing else. before it was "checking for updates" about 2-3 minutes and then it always changed to "installing updates" and that second one lasted for some hours yes.  i will leave PC on for some hours while i will go to work. if 6 hours wont be enough for them to install, i will just swap the HDD, if the updates are needed
