So I have this shitty A10-6800k and GTX 750ti setup. If I were to upgrade my CPU to a i5-4690k and Z97-p mobo, do I just plug in my HDD and it'll work or do I install windows again? I only have an OEM copy and my HDD has loads of stuff on it so would it just format it automatically and install it or what happens. Would appreciate any help, thanks!

Most hardware upgrades usually work without any issues. You should just have to install the new mobo and cpu, hit f1 once the screen pops up saying your cpu configuration has changed and you'll be all set :)

You will definitely have to re-certify windows with your license key, and it might require you to reinstall windows if it decides to be a total beyotch. I would strongly recommend backing up all you personal files before doing anything.

EDIT: The windows registration/license key is associated with the motherboard, so that is why you will most likely need to re-register the license key.

I don't have my own windows key, bought the system off of somebody and didn't get windows hard copy or anything but I would be borrowing my mates OEM copy, is there a way of finding my license key off my pc?+I don't have any personal files it's all games and a little bit of footage thats already on youtube anyway

I've moved HDD's from one PC to another with a completely different set of hardware multiple times without any issues.

I've even moved a HDD from a laptop to a desktop without any issues.

If you want to know your Windows License key, use BelArc Advisor and print out the report it generates. It will list any program license keys currently installed on your system.

Well, then maybe they changed it. The last time I moved HDDs around or changed mobos (back in the XP/Vista days) I had to re-register my WLK because it detected a different system.

Yeah, I don't think its the same with Windows 7/8/8.1/10 and I've even moved a HDD from a i7-3770 PC to a Intel Core 2 Duo PC so I'm sure it won't be an issue.
