mITX build for gf

MrBucket101
My gf wants to build her own PC for graduation. Her parents are going to be footing the bill for the parts, I just need to pick them out. The budget for this build is 1k.

She picked out the case, so I am building everything around the case, changing cases is not an option. She doesn't do any gaming, so no need for a GPU. However, she will be using this on a 3440x1440 ultrawide. Since she won't be getting a GPU, and will be using such a beefy display, I wanted to go with skylake for the better iGPU. Went with an asus mobo for their BIOS. I like the built in fan controls, when it's fully built I plan on setting up silent fan curves.

The only thing I am really having a tough time picking out is the CPU cooler. I want something silent, I figured an AIO unit would be great for this purpose. I was looking at the Corsair H60, but the reviews on newegg don't seem to favorable. Quite a few of them talk about how noisy it is. The case is also a consideration, not many tower coolers can fit in it.

Also, I don't plan on paying $440 for the 6700k. I will wait till they fall back down to $350 and buy it then.

Motherboard: Asus Z170I PRO GAMING Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($157.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Case: BitFenix Prodigy (Orange) Mini ITX Tower Case  ($78.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $953.87

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Any suggestions on CPU Coolers?

Thanks!

Do you plan on OCing this build? Why not go with an i5-6600 for price. They are great and if your not running multi threaded workloads then you really dont need the i7 and hyperthreading, This would also save you some money in the MOBO category cause you can go with an H170 board instead.

Also do you need a PSU with this build or do you have one already?

I forgot to add the PSU :P Fixed it now, updated first post.

Yeah, I know I can save money going H170 route, but with a budget of 1k and no need for a GPU. I splurged.

I'm up in the air on overclocking, she just wants the fastest stable processor. The stock clock on the 6700K is 600MHz faster than the 6700. Seemed like a win win either way; naturally faster CPU and the option to overclock.

Well if you plan to OC maybe even a 6600k. Yes its an i5 but it doesnt sound like you really need an i7 in any cases. So i put this together for you. Also i dont know about EVGA SuperNOVA PSUs so i added another option here.

Honestly, if she's not doing anything heavy, I would just get her a skylake i3 or i5 and an H170 motherboard. No sense in getting her a monster if she's not going to use it for heavily-threaded workloads.

And I'd at least get her a small GPU like a 7770, just in case she decides she wants to play Farmville or whatever at 3440x1440.

to much wasted money..

u can go with non K processor and maybe i3

why 16gb ram ?

she will not use around 15% of this performance (your choise)

split money on half and for 500$ travel to LA with her one week :D

16GB of RAM, because 1-8GB stick is $50-$55, and I can get 2 8GB sticks for $80.

The budget is 1k, her parents are paying for this build. She does not get to keep whatever is not spent.

If the build costs $500, then she gets a $500 build, and her parents keep the $500 of the budget they didn't spend. She is replacing a 2008 macbook. This system will need to last her just as long, if not longer.

The budget presents a very unique situation, i'm trying to make the most of it.

well more gb doesnt mean more speed you can find 2x4 3000+ if you want to buy good mb

but anyway she will not use 20% of speed or size :)

my opinion: make her gaming rig if you want to spent 1k and you can play games when you go to her ;)

and dat pc will work perfectly.

go with i5 and some asus rog mb 8 or 16 gb of fast ram and gpu with 4gb ddr5

peace.
