Windows 10 Spying

Go to solution Solved by Yongtjunkit,

So... does all of this spying still exist on Windows 7, 8, and or 8.1? Or are these strictly Windows 10 updates?

Yes windows 7,8.1 and 10 is spying.  Windows 7 and 8.1 spying was planted by Microsoft via windows update while window 10 spying is already available in the first version of Windows 10 but in the November update the service was renamed.

ISPs monitor all your traffic, so even if you dont use windows at all, anything you do connected to the internet is stored by the ISP

so yeah, people need to stop being so paranoid because it doesnt even matter anymore

I was referring to the original post yes microsoft still collects data on previous operating systems like windows 7 but not quite like they are doing now.

Actually it does matter. There are files that I work on that are not internet connection based some just as simple as text documents and some others with encryption. The list goes on and on those are just two. That's not well thought out.

Does all of this spying exist on Linux OSes? Like Ubuntu? Or is it just Microsoft? I don't want to have someone harvesting the Hell out of my data.

they dont look at your personal files

they only take statistics data from cortana and stuff like what websites you visit, programs installed, etc...

and they do have access to your computer if the government sees you as a security risk

but no, they do not have an army of people snooping through people's files

do you really think that its even possible for them to read or even store yottabytes of data on millions of computers? lol

thats just ridiculous

the only reason someone should be concerned is if they are doing illegal stuff that would attract attention, THEN a real person from the FBI or whatever might look though your PC to see what you've been up to

it will never get accessed unless you're a criminal

its that simple

your argument is basically "oh im concerned because the police have access to my house"

well yeah of course, but they will only enter when there is a reason for them to

so dont do anything high profile, and you're safe...

no need to be paranoid :)

That actually looks really sweet, is there a particular reason why that one?

because it uses a linux script but it is made to look like windows but the bad think is that it cant run all the things windows can but i use it on my non gaming rig just for homework and all that other junk

Any Windows version post PRISM spies on you, the same goes for Apple. There are ways to mitigate this, but you can never be sure that it is having any effect, because it is proprietary software.

Your best bet is to switch to Linux. I personally would recommend either Ubuntu with GNOME, or Xubuntu.

thats the internet and program usage

they dont collect information on what you wrote in a document lol

and just fyi, pretty much every website you visit also collects information about your activity to tailor ads to you

if you use adblock it doesnt even matter, but personally I would rather have ads related to PCs and audio than "cute asian girls in my area"

The invasive updates in Windows 7 and 8 are optional downloads if a person has automatic updates disabled, and can be prevented from installing, or removed from installion afterwards if they've already been installed. Here's a script to block the telemetry updates for Windows 7 / 8: https://voat.co/v/technology/comments/459263
