I bought the Define XL R2 (http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-xl-r2-black-pearl) computer case because it was marketted to take E-ATX motherboard, but upon buying the E-ATX Supermicro X10DAi-O

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon/c600/x10dai.cfm i noticed of the 9 standoffs on the motherboard, the computer case could only align to use 4. Again 4 out of 9 standoffs.

 

Anyways i have assembled this computer and the computer won't power on. At the moment i am not sure why the computer won't turn on. I must admit this is my very first computer build, but i have the pins from the power supply to the motherboard.

 

Need help and advice on what to do now.

Presumably the standoffs were screwed into the motherboard in the configuration for ATX motherboards, not EATX motherboards. Take the board out, put the screws where they're supposed to go, and put the motherboard back in.

Not sure i get what you are saying, there are no holes on the case to put any of the other standoffs. The holes are way off, and seesm to me that case neevr had E-ATX motherboards in mind when it was been made and yet they advertised as supporting E-ATX boards.

 

 

Anyways there are three or so wires coming from the top front of the case that i have no idea where to plug them into. Also i plugged in the 24 port pins and 8 pins from the PSU to the motherboard and computer will still not come on. Is it because of the standoff or why is the computer not coming on?

 

Also is one of the the wires i have not plugged in yet the one for the power button of the case? Is that why the computer is not coming on? Right now the power button does not work so when i turn on the power supply, nothing happens. Computer does not turn on.

lol, yes, that most likely is the power button...

I can't help with the eATX compatibility right now, sorry to say, but in regards to your question regarding the power button you are right in that the wires you have not connected are the culprits. I assume they look like these:

If so, plug them in to your mobo in the correct location. There will be a connector similar to this on your board.

Those are not the wires am referring to. I thinkthe ones am referring to all have exactly same connector and they are 3 of them coming from the front top of the define XL R2 case. The cables you showed in the picture, i connected them all, but to be honest am not sure i connected them at the right places. All i know is they snapped in and connected well where i connected them on the motherboard. So not sure there are exactly right spots for them and if they are not there then it wont come on

 

 

Also i thought the 24 pins and 8 pins should turn on the motherboard? Or if these wires you mentioned are not connected properly, that means it wont turn on as well?

Barnacles got an SSI-CEB (or whatever) in his Define XL R2 easily. I don't see why you can't tbh.

 

Video? also hope its not the one by puggetsounds system, because they must have made a custom hole in the case...also SSI-CEB is not E-ATX as well.

No, they didn't cut a hole in his case to fit the board and SSI-CEB means (last time I checked) a dual socket board which you'd think would be larger than EATX

Well i posted link of the case and motherboard, not sure there are enough pictures on the internet but you can go find out yourself and see that the E-ATX has 9 standoff points and only 4 could match on that case.

 

Please help with why this thing wont turn on. I have the 24 pin and 8 pin and connected almost all except for 3 cables i have no idea where they will go on the motherboard, apart from the fact that they are so short and can't connect to the motherboard directly so not sure where they will go.

Computer wont turn on and i need this build to be successful.

It says in the motherboard manual where they plug in. They usually go together in a single front panel header and looks a bit odd, but not every board is the same. Read the manual. It's in there.

The supermicro motherboard is advertised as E-ATX as well, so no guarantee on what specifications say now?

​I suppose it doesnt really matter though :P 

 

But @nokia3310, it really sounds like your just having an issue with standoffs to attach the motherboard correct? As well as powering on the system? 

 

Did you attach the case headers like the others suggested? Or try shorting the pins with a paperclip to get the system to post?

Lmao.

 

Even Imgur being a mass image sharing website, LTT seems to be more stable. Imgur always gets random down times due to those people wanting to share massive gif libraries and upload them all at once.

The board is 12" x 13" either form factor, and that is probably all that supermicro are advertising. The board will "fit" into an E-ATX case, just doesn't screw down.

 

Also, when I google x10dai, I get lots of results where the size is "E-ATX (SSI-EEB)", to specify that the board is the SSI-EEB form factor. Often both are used interchangeably.

From your pictures, it looks like you don't have any RAM installed. If I'm reading the manual correctly, it also looks like the 8 pin CPU power connector is in the wrong socket. Either of those would cause the system to not post.

So without RAM the computer wont turn on?

Where do i put the 8 pin?
