Slow SSD Performance

Rob-

Hello,

I've got a Samsung 850 PRO which I've had for a few months and I've never really been wowed by it's performance, boot up times aren't impressive.

for example I just downloaded Cinebench and this is the speed while extracting.

Is your 850 PRO full to the brim? That might be it.

I used to be quite active here.

System specs? Are you using a sata 3 cable and port? AHCI enabled? Rapid mode on?

You're copying files within the same logical volume, depending on source file fragmentation, this can be slow due to fragmentation. This would be considered random I/O. Do you happen to have any AntiVirus running that is scanning on file access?

The benchmarks that you've provided look perfectly fine for the drive.

Try copying files from a ramdisk to your SSD to rule out any OS issues.

Maybe because cinebench has a lot of small files?  It's not going to get anywhere close to the true sequential write speed.

Turn on rapid mode.

RAPID does work well, but does carry a small risk, as the software utilizes some of the unutilized system ram as a cache. System ram is volatile in that if there is indeed data in cache and power is loss, data corruption can occur. Hence it is not enabled by default.

Nope, no Av running at all.

I'll have to do some quick Googleing as I've never created a ramdisk before but I'll give that a go.
