Separate PSU for GPU

I recently bought a prebuilt computer, sorry. I looked inside and the motherboard was proprietary and the psu only has 350 watts. I cannot install a new PSU so therefore, no new gpu. I am stuck with the gtx 750 ti. Can I have another psu outside the case which only powers the gpu? So I can perhaps install a gtx 960. I want the 350 watts psu to only power the motherboard, cpu, etc. While my spare 500 watts psu powers my gpu. Thanks!

Why can you not just add a new PSU instead of adding a 2nd one?

Or you could scrap the 350w since you are getting a 500w. Unless you have a very old computer that has proprietary plugs.

if I got this right, the GTX 750Ti does not have additional power connectors - meaning you can't put a 2nd PSU

It's possible to do what you're suggesting but it's more like a testing thing, not a long term solution. You should rather just remove the 350W PSU and install a good 500W instead. If you cough up more info about your computer like a make and a model, we should be able to help you find a suitable PSU that'll fit in your system.

My computer is new, but the motherboard uses proprietary plugs. I am stuck with the psu with 350 watts. BTW why is it hazardous, what could happen? Seems like it could work?

I am also planning to get a new and better gpu, one with maxwell technology.

On the side of the motherboard it has one 14 pin connecter. To the left of the connector there is two additional 4 pin connectors.

Do you know the name of the system there are probably adapters. Also while your idea is not the most orthodox it should work.
