Hi, the first thing I want to say, sorry for my english.

Well, I have a pair of Plantronic headset (Gamecom 777), after almost 3 years, their time is over, so I have to buy a new one! I am not an audiophile, but I hate the distortion, besides I like feel the bass because of the music I usually listen to. I have 60$/€ to spend, so I can't consider buy good headphone and a 9 bucks mic, because I just HATE that mics like Zalman ZM1 that looks like it will break just touching it (I don't like use windows volume control)

Then I'm looking for the best headset in my money range. I like Plantronics Gamecom 788, because I like this brand, and some people call this headset the best price-quality headset under 100. I read it has a good sound and bass quality and a good mic aswell, however the materials are poor, but I do not care so much, my actual Plantronics are made in plastic and they had had a long life.

My other question it is about HyperX Cloud 2, a lot of people and rewiews call the HXC2 the best price-quality headset in the market, they talk about the amazing sound quality (not so good bass), the materials, the mic... But. This cost 90 depends on where you are looking for, and I'm not really sure of try to buy this because of the price (obviously) and because I read a lot of people talking about auricular issues, like stop working with some months of use, issues with the DAC that HXC2 brings...

Some questions then...

-It really worth to pay a 40€ difference between 788 and Cloud2 because of the sound quality? I don't have dedicated audio card, just motherboard integrated. I don't know if I really will feel a truly difference between them. I mean, like if I test 10€ generic brand and Sennheiser HD 439.

-If I turn off the 7.1 button on HXC2. Does the mic still working?

-Do anyone of you have some issues like mentioned?

-Some objetive opinion about 788?

Thanks in advance!

I use the Plantronics Gamecom 780 (same as 788 but different colour material inside earcups) and I absolutely love them. They sound fantastic, they're inexpensive, the mic is of very high quality and the build quality is excellent (legit, I've dropped mine so much and it doesn't even have a scratch). Only issue is you have to do a little extra work to get it to function correctly with virtual Dolby surround on Windows 10. Not too hard to do a little tinkering though, and for the value, it's worth it.

The HyperX blows the GameComs out the water then later drowns it, not even worth mentioning.
