I just got my 500gb Samsung Evo ssd, transferred C, and I'm trying to use the old 1tb WD for mass storage.

I decided I'd put my videos and pictures there, so I changed the locations to inside folders in E. Somehow I guess I missed the folder or something because now instead of saying "Videos" and "Pictures" I just see E:\ and E:\, both of course being shortcuts to E with my folders inside.

Realized my mistake and tried to put them back in the default locations and now I get "The folder can't be moved here, Access denied."

Totally lost. No idea what happened. No clue how to fix it. Tried to change the location via registry edit with no luck.

Only other options I've found googling were removing all user accounts and adding myself back, and reinstalling windows. Neither sounds fun.

Anyone have suggestions before I have to resort to one of those?

Thanks in advance.

(Hopefully this is posted in the right place, wasn't sure if should be here or troubleshooting..)

Open up windows explorer to c:/users/your name

Right click on desired folder you want to move, properties, location.

here type in e:/Pictures

or whatever folder you are moving.

If you dont have permissions on the drive, then you need to take ownership of the drive. If you dont have anything on the E drive, the easisest way to deal with this nonsense is to just re-format it, and that will get rid of any left over windows system files from when the os was installed on it.

When in doubt, re-format.

I made a new folder in e, did all that, tried to move to the new folder and get "The specified path does not exist".

Tried to move the pictures folder to desktop, then manually back into my user folder and it just disappears.

Looks like I have full permissions to everything. My account says I'm administrator and when I check the security on the folders it says administrators have full access.

I have two folders in there with stuff in them, but I have no problem just moving them to my desktop and reformatting it. my issue is getting my pictures and videos folders back to normal. When I reformat will they just go back to the default location?
