PCIe Version

albaoliam23

Hey guys. I have watched the video of linus explaning pcie version. But I don't get it.

I'b building a gaming rig. and im stuck in selecting a motherboard because of the pcie version.

I choose the PowerColor Turboduo r7 265 gpu and it has a PCIe 3.0

My first motherboard choice is MSI H81m-p33 but i don't know its Pcie version.

I decided to pick this one. Asus B85M-G because it says that it has ha PCIe 3.0

BUT BUT BUT!

It's price is much expensive than the MSI.

My Question now is, DOES IT MATTER IF I PLUG MY Pcie 3.0 GPU to a my Pcie 2.0 Motherboard??

As far as I know, PCIe is backwards compatible, and your card will just run slower.

So thanks for reading guys, if this post sucked, I'm not sure what you can do, but if you liked it, go 'head and hit that like button, or maybe add me as a friend. If it's Gen 2 x16 or x8 there are little to no ill-effects.

Should I pick a motherboard with PCIe gen3? or is it ok if I just pick pciegen2 motherboards?

In this day and age, there's no excuse for not having a PCIe 3.0 board.
