I overclocked my cpu to 4.5ghz

Stress test has run for 4 hours now, no problems.

Temps jumped from 45 to 66 (min and max) 2 minutes after I started the test but are at 60-62 now

My question is, task manager says my speed is 4.45 to 4.5 (it jumps up and down)

Is this normal? In cpu Z the core speed goes 4.5 to like 4.4498

Not sure if this is normal

Main PC: 4690k // Z97 // R9 280 3GB // 8gb Ram // CM Elite 430 Case // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

Living Room "Console" PC: FX 8350 // 990a SLI Krait // R7 360 // 8gb Ram // HAF 912 // 750 EVGA B PSU // 1TB HDD

Future Plans:

find a 2nd monitor at a pawn shop

Sell/giveaway R7 360, move r9 280 into console PC, buy a better GPU for main PC.

It's normal, don't worry about it. What voltage are you using?

That's a little high, some wouldn't worry about it but I do. Try dropping it down to 1.25v and seeing if it's stable. I'm stable at 4.6GHz with 1.22v as an example.

Just tried 1.25

Crashed after log in

Just tried 1.25

Seems okay! Should I try dropping it even more?

Always, the less voltage you use the less heat and wear on the CPU. You want to go as fast as possible, with the least amount of voltage. Took me weeks to get to my final overclock, but it runs cool and I've never had an issue gaming.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

sorry it crashed after about 10 minutes

I'm trying 1.27 now (the voltage when I went to bios was 1.268
