Case Ideas

Go to solution Solved by TheCaptain53,

Im thinking of expanding in the future to 4k if that helps

So that leaves the S340 the Enthoo Pro M and the Parvum S2.0

EDIT: Im getting a 4690k and a GTX 970 with a Asus VG249QE

Once you know the components you want fit, and can accommodate any possible parts you could want in the future, it's just finding the case you think looks the best and is price competitive.

If you're getting a 4690K, make sure it's on a Z97 board with a half decent aftermarket cooler. Even if you're not overclocking, an aftermarket cooler is a good shout as it reduces noise levels. My NH-D15 is one of the best coolers out there and I don't even run my chip overclocked. :')

Something as basic as a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO/X or bequiet! Pure Rock would be great choices, just make sure they fit in your chosen case.

Im planning on building a new PC and im having trouble deciding which case to get.

1) Parvum S2.0 (Black/Blue)

2) Corsair Spec01

3) Corsair Spec02

4) Corsair Spec03

Also im thinking of going for either a black/blue theme or black/red if that helps

Open for other suggestions!

OP, remember to follow your own topics.

The case you pick depends more on what you're going to do with it. For example, I actually own the Corsair Spec-01, but quickly swapped it out because of its limitations. It does not officially support a radiator larger than 120mm, and it can't fit an air cooler larger than 151mm. The build quality is also suspect at times, and there's very little space behind the motherboard tray for cable management. I can't say the same for the Spec-02 and 03, but I imagine it's more or less the same story.

The Phanteks Enthoo Pro M is only about 50% more expensive (~£15-£20), but is larger and better.

If the parts you pick aren't going to be very powerful, and you don't plan to expand your build, then the Spec-01 will be fine for your purposes.

Im planning on getting theZ97S Sli krait edition from MSI with either a H100i or a 240M from coolermaster

Also I took a look at the enthoo pro M and watched a review on it, I think the winners kind of obvious ;)

Glad to be of assistance!

Just as a side note, a case like that can fit pretty damn big air coolers. The top end air coolers often outperform the 240mm AIOs, and tend to be quieter. In that market, you have mainly 3 options:

  1. Noctua NH-D15 is the best of the bunch. It's the quietest, performs the best, has the best mounting hardware, has the best fans (although, not in terms of aesthetics). I also believe it's the most expensive. It is well worth it, though.
  2. bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 is a good performing cooler that's quiet, but it's not as good as the NH-D15 (that is quite the task, though). Its mounting hardware isn't as good as Noctua's, and it can't easily fit different fans such as Noctua's offerings. Many people argue that it does look the best (I like the look of my NH-D15), and it's also cheaper.
  3. Cryorig R1 Ultimate falls somewhere in the middle. I think it looks drop dead gorgeous, it performs well, it's quiet, and its mounting hardware is supposedly quite good. It also doesn't come with Noctua's trademark poop brown and vomit tan fans, which from an aesthetics standpoint, is definitely a positive. I believe it's around the same price as the NH-D15.

Just something to consider.

What cooler would you recommend if I want to overclock to 4.2-4.5 ghz?

And im also looking for a good 1440p 144hz ips panel, I saw the acer one but judging from its reviews there are a lot of faulty ones, and the new PG279Q which is EXPENSIVE but it is so far the best on the market. My question is, are there any other better choices? (Im getting a 980 instead of the 970 due to its vram issues)

Thanks for all your help ;)

Any of those air coolers I mentioned will be fine for that level of overclock. 4.2GHz is a fairly conservative overclock.

I don't know a whole lot about displays. I use a BenQ 60Hz 1440p IPS display and it is awesome. I would stay away from those panels for now. A GTX 980 will not be enough to push games at 1440p and 144fps, it's just not going to happen. Take away some of that monitor budget and use it elsewhere in your rig, like upgrading the graphics, or just overall spending less.

I also think you should look at the R9 390X as opposed to the GTX 980. It's not much slower, but is cheaper. If you have the money for a 980, then have a look at the R9 Fury instead as it's approximately the same price.

The 970 VRAM issue also isn't as big as people make it out to be, I'd know, I own one. :')

All the benchmarks ive seen for the 980 it was able to handle all games at 1440p at 60+fps and at the Asus booth at IGN Con they had a 980 and a 4k monitor and it held up pretty good. Ive seen alot of "negative" reviews on the AMD side lately but ill look into the 3 GPUs. Also, you mean the fury X right?

Nope, just the regular R9 Fury. It's similar to the Fury X, but it has some Stream Processors cut and a large air cooler in place of the water cooler.
