Anti static questions

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

Static electricity can be developed anywhere at any time, even in highly humid areas. By testing the devices, you are assuring yourself that you are grounded when using them properly. One way of testing something like an anti-static wrist strap or heel straps is by using a device that attempts to create a circuit through you looping back to the device.

If you happen to build up static electricity and touch something that is ESD sensitive, you could potentially destroy it or reduce its lifespan.

i need help on my work (lol) the question is based on anti static devices such as; wristband, mats etc

Describe the importance of testing antistatic protection devices and give two implications of not testing and How can these be tested?

You need to test them because you need to know whether they're effective at dissipating any static buildup.

One implication of not testing it is that it might not be effective enough at dissipating static and it might cause components to be killed. Also, if the resistor gets too hot under normal use then it could potentially burn and damage things.

Sig under construction.

Anti-static is very important, especially if you live in certain climates (where I live, Maine, has a lot of static, especially during the winter), so it's something I keep in my toolkit always. Although, I haven't 'tested' it, but it hasn't killed anything.

Yet

Oh, shit. I should probably go test my anti static equipment now.

If you suffer from dry skin like I do, testing wrist straps is extremely important as I fail my tests at work without ESD lotion. Now normally I wear heel straps, but it's something important in case I need to use my wrist strap.

Using normal lotion isn't necessarily enough because a lot of them contain electrical insulators.

I suffer from wet skin and sometimes I'm scared that I'm going to short out my parts with the moisture :P
