How hot do laptops get?

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

I know to expect higher temps.

But my question is more how hot is too hot in terms of laptops (like in degrees C)

And what temps should I expect after gaming for say 2 hours.

The temperatures you're seeing aren't necessarily out of the range that I would expect.

I just recently started gaming on laptops (did almost purely desktops before) and I have been noticing really high temperatures (relative to what I get on desktop)

I currently have a Asus 15 inch laptop with i7 6700HQ and gtx 960m (Asus ROG GL552VW-DH71). While I can push the graphics settings quite high and get good fps, Im not sure what temps are considered normal for laptops. I realize they are more compact than desktops so they are less able to dissipate heat but I never imagined them to reach the temps Im getting now.

After periods of gaming, Im reaching 92c on CPU and 82c on GPU (This is literally more than 30c higher than what  I get on my desktop CPU). I already made sure nothing is blocking the vents and have even propped up the laptop to allow more air flow.

So what are considered "normal" temps for laptops?

Also does anyone know a temp monitoring taskbar program that works with Windows 10? Ive been using Coretemp with my Windows 7 system but it doesnt work at all with Windows 10 (it freezes up or something)

Laptops tend to have poorer cooling than desktops. Less room for air to flow, and the fans are smaller so they need to spin much faster to move the same amount of air.

Well its in a confined space with limited airflow, im pretty sure its gonna have higher temps  than a desktop cpu?
