How does one overclock a gpu...

Go to solution Solved by SeaPanda,

NVIDIA regulates the bios's made for card manufacturer's and won't allow anything dangerous for extended use.

Especially with how resilient Kepler is with voltage.

@OP just max the voltage slider and go ham.

Would putting everything to max be a bad idea?

What's up guys,

I currently have a Asus Gtx 770 2gb and I was wondering how to overclock it...I know the basics like not to touch the gpu voltage and I'm using these settings as a guide https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TuXESFnTZVphY9DHTkICX7nIRrmnJytjxw3DdDA6tgU/edit#gid=0&vpid=A113 . I'm having trouble finding the core clock speed setting on the software that Asus provides . Is it in the bios menu? Thanks for the help in advance.

You can touch the voltage as long as you're careful. The BIOS won't allow you to add more voltage than what the GPU can handle, so no real danger there.(You'll still get reduced lifespan though and increased heat)

You can certainly 'touch' the GPU voltage, so I'm not sure what basics do you know.

Use MSI Afterburner to overclock it, it works with all GPUs, not only those from MSI, I would look for some overclocking results on the internet of the exact same card, then tried some of them, and checked which ones work, then pushed as far as the GPU lets you

Should I not use the software that Asus provides?

The software that ASUS provides is a version of RivaTuner which is what GPUTweak(their software), Afterburner, and Precision(EVGA) are derived from. They all utilize the same core components - just a different interface.

You probably can, MSI Afterburner is a very good tool though, tested a million times, so just use that one to be sure you overclock properly

I couldn't find the core clock on the asus software

Do not put clocks to the max setting. Raise them slowly by say 10MHz and stress test each time.

Okay so I set the voltage to max and is there a ratio to gpu boost clock to memory clock?

There is no defined answer. You will need to find that out yourself, but I advise you to overclock the GPU first. Then overclock the memory if you want to go that route.

What temperature would you recommend as the gpu target temp? 84c?

That's fine.

Awesome :) thank you for your help so far, I've gotten 10fps boost and it's still climbing :)

Just be careful and have fun.

max the voltage slider, yes.

I do memory first usually.

If it has Samsung memory (you can check with GPU-z.) set it to +500 right off the bat, if that works keep it.
