Does anyone know of a free communication program over LAN with an administrative UI control panel?

Hi guys,

My company has been using AChat to allow our employees to communicate over the LAN in the office for a while now, but it is very old and has not seen an update in well over a year (or more).

We are wanting something that essentially allows us to be administrators to the LAN communication through a UI or something.

Obviously, there is stuff like the gaming communication software, but... no.

All it needs is simple text chat communication. Other stuff like hyperlinks working, images working, sharing files, etc would be nice, but not necessary at all.

Preferably without a Chat server setup, but that would actually be fine, just more work for us to set up.

Lastly, I would prefer it to be updated relatively recently or get moderately constant updates. Programs that are dead in the water just make me paranoid about security concerns.

Thanks guys,
Vitalius

I know there is LAN Messenger, but I don't know how the administrative tools are. The program does allow for file and image sharing however. It also works peer-to-peer, so it doesn't runn off a dedicated server.
