Hi !

I had some trouble with my fan on my new laptop Samsung 3 Series, i've never been able to control the fan speed in anyway (software and/or BIOS)... The fan works, but too low for me

And something that i noticed, is that the Fn key on the F11 key does look like a fan ! And, strangely, it seems it's the only Fn key that does.. nothing !

Does anyone knows something about it ?

With some Googling around;

"Installation notes:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This laptop should have an indicator light that function lock is enabled. My unit came with function locked on so my arrow keys were doing the page up, page down, home, and end instead of up down, left right. As this unit came as a refurb with a fresh install, it was necessary to install the Samsung Control Center software for Windows 7 (I believe this is called Easy display manager for Windows XP) to use some of the function keys (for example, the brighness up/down. I do not mean f1, f2, or f3).

The Samsung control center allows you to configure the fan to be quiet. The cpu fan is definitely noisy at 100%, especially in a quiet room. But I cannot hear the fan under casual use (internet, email, word processing). Once the samsung control center is installed, there is a keyboard shortcut to turn off the fan.

The trackpad is not the same quality as a Macbook, but it is decent. After some configurations using the Elan software, I got multi-touch working."

So, do you have the Samsung Control Center installed? If you haven't tried and reinstalled or uninstalled anything since you got it, then you should have it installed, otherwise Google it and see if you can somehow install it if it isn't already.
