G-Sync Overrated?

Lethal Seraph

I happen to find a good deal on a Predator XR341CK (under $850- its $899 on Newegg rn) but it's Adaptive Freesync only. Now my question is, G-sync overrated to have (justify +$200) and can a single 980ti run this baby for 75Hz?

Gsnyc is over rated. IMHO. I don't think I'll ever buy a Gsnyc monitor.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

^This, pretty much. Not having screen tearing is nice, but honestly it doesn't bother me for long enough to matter. If it were any worse than it is (and it's not that bad for me) it would probably be artifacting as well and I'd be questioning my card.

Certainly not worth $200-300.

But can a single 980Ti run 3440x1440 at 75mhz

Nope. Maybe dual 980Tis? That resolution is harder to drive than 4K dude.

Basically any 3440x1440 34" but the Acer predator is at 75hz? Or does that only works if system has amd gpu or free sync enabled?

I wanna know if my 980ti can hit 75 fps lol

Adaptive sync whether it be in the Freesync version or the Gsync is well worth having. It removes a lot of inherent stutter that games create whether it be in different forms for vsync on and off. Its a superior way to display computer games of which there is no doubt. Gsync is better at the extremes, both at the top range where it typically has higher frame rates and better handling of reaching the top and also at the bottom around 40 fps where gsync gracefully handles it and effectively works all the way down in terms of frame rate maintaining the smoothness. Freesync does not work as well at the extremes but then its also quite a bit less expensive. Which you choose is about which GPU you have and intend to have in the future (which is why its so problematic).

I wouldn't personally want to buy a monitor without one of the two technologies today, its quite a dramatic improvement for those that notice all the stutter games have.

It's nice to have, but definitely not worth the 200 bucks price tag.

The input lag introduced also a bad thing for FPS players.

Well, the monitor is only gonna be used for game immersion and some productivity. I'm not big on FPS, mainly MMORPG and single player RPG.

Right now I'm in the market for 21:9 32"+ and 1440p. I picked this display thinking with 75hz cap is better than the usual 60hz on ultrawide. I could think it'll justify an extra $100-$150 from the usual LG displays but I wanna know if I can hit 75fps on a single 980ti.

I think it probably is. Some people(myself included) chose a TN gsync monitor over an 144hz IPS non gsync one, sacrificing image quality for Gsync, and wound up regretting it. I would have probably been better off going with an IPS freesync 1440p 144hz monitor over my TN ROG swift.

That's not to say Gsync is totally worthless, but its not the real game changer its been made out to be. More important to me is having good image quality(IE IPS over TN), and the high refresh rate(Gsync or not). Gsync is just icing on the cake, and seems to come with an increased likelihood of malfunction. Screen tearing is one of those things like ghosting. A few people are sensitive to it on a few games, but for most people its not noticeable and if your FPS is capped to your refresh rate I would think doesn't even occur.

gsync is very overrated since nvidia also has adaptive v-sync which is going to just about the same thing without needing any special monitor or module  (you just need one of their gpus)

im not sure about how "over rated" gsync is but i had the PG278Q for few months

and b4 that i had the benq24xl (Forgot the module)

anyway GSYNC is  NOT OVER RATED

take a normal screen 144hz TN  no gsync and try to run Witcher 3 Ultra with hairworks you will have around 40-60fps depends alot on the rig right ? but game will work "slowly" and "laggy" because the low fps

now do it with the gsync monitor . 50fps feels like 100fps ... so how over rated is it exactly?

any game i played on my pg278q(while it worked) was a blast to play even the desktop use was better then any other monitor that i had

i agree that the price they charge for GSYNC is too much . but saying its "over rated" is not true. for me its like move from hdd to ssd

also i think 1440p is the ideal resolution for gaming/desktop and anything above that is too much (atleast for me)
