Which RAM should I use?

Hi!

 

I'm building myself a computer. But i'm not sure which RAM should I choose.

I've decidied for 16GB kit (2x 8GB) DDR4. The color should be black or whiite or silver or something neutral, becuase i'm building a mostly white-black computer.

The pricing should be at about 120€  (=  127 USD, 84 GBP, 170 CAD).

I was thinkin about Kings­ton HyperX Savage 16GB Kit DDR4-2800 CL14.

 

 

Also one question more:

What is the difference between CL 14, CL 15 and CL 16?

Hello and welcome to LTT!

 

First make sure that your motherboard support DDR4. Z170 or X99 (etc). The amount of memory don't matter too much, 16GB is well enough for gaming and light workstation use.

 

The question you are asking is what ever CL 14 15 and 16 is, it's numbers that class the latency, for example, 2400mhz ram will have lower latancy than 1600mhz. You give up one or another, most of times this do not matter in gaming.

 

The difference between CL 14 15 and 16 is latancy in the readings.

Yes I do think that HyperX are one of the best ram you can get. The speed is there and it looks great as well, perfect for your white/black build!

 

Yes they will fit just fine in your Z170-A board
