Hey guys,

Will be building a gaming pc, in near future.

While I haven't quite settled on a final configuration..

Hence needed some advice..

Processor-i5 6600k

GPU-ZOTAC 980 Ti amp ex

Mobo-Maximus Ranger 8 Z170

RAM-Vengence LPX 8Gb 2400Mhz

PSU-Corsair rm650

HDD-WD 1TB Purple

Monitor-BENQ xl2420z

Cabinet-Corsair carbide Air 540

Some crucial points though:-

1)I wont be doing any liquid cooling any time soon.(How much will it affect my system life).

2)Monitor 24" 1080p is temporary ,will be getting a pg279q later.

3)SSD (will be planning them later).

4)How much of a benifit is getting ddr4 OR z170 vs z97{coz i definitely need future proofing fro about 5-6 year }

Thanks in advance people...

Really need a Maximus 8?

Also Get a Cavair Blue not Purple because you know blue is cheaper

Corsair RM650?meh but ok

I would get something like a Corsair RM650i or Corsair RM650x,much better or maybe if you want some cheaper stuff EVGA 650W G2 and maybe if you want all out

EVGA 650W P2 or maybe a Seasonic 660W Platinum

There is not benefit between DDR3 and DDR4, well not that a average consumer will notice in their daily use

If your not going to watercool or even get a aftermarket airc ooler whats the point of such expensive motherboard and CPU?Also the 6600K does not come with a CPU cooler.

If you need a good recommendation theirs always the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO or maybe the Noctua U12S or BeQuiet Dark Rock

overclocking (duh)

@OP not even getting liquid cooling

The Asus Maximus 8 is $218

The Asus Z170-A is $130

You can get the exact same overclock on both

I will definitely be going for a CPU cooler. (NOCTUA air NH D15)

I kinda thought maximus 8 is a gmaing edition mobo..So must be gaming optimised or would have high stability.(I might be wrong, thats why i need advice.)

Regarding PSU I am kind of limited. They dont have other

so RM is not that bad, BUT bad nevertheless??(Bad as in which aspects)

Also for maximus 8 ranger what could be the possible alternatives(Without compromising so much on the performance).

Also as I plan to play on 1080p I wont need overclocking power as of now.

But I will be switching over to a 1440p display in some time soon.So an overclock friendly mobo will be appreciated though..

why not 4690K(or lower) + Z97 ? they both do the same

I kind of wanted a z170 board, so as even though something drastic happens in processor industry over time.

Most likely I think z170 will help me face the blow.

Where as z97 is couple generations old.
