Hello,

I I am a university student. I'm looking to upgrade my parents old HP A6552F desktop to use it for gaming. I don't have a lot of money but I have been saving for a while to upgrade it. My plan is to keep the q6600 and the motherboard. I want to trade out the old 4x1gb ram for a new set of 4x2gb ram as this is the most supported ram that the motherboard will take. I want to also run a gtx 960 4gb video card.

I think this all will work and I'm thinking that a mild overclock on the q6600 to 3.0ghz will actually make a pretty solid machine.

I would love some advice as I am not sure if these parts are compatible.

Thanks,

A new pc Enthusiast

They should be compatible. I'd recommend an R9 380 over the 960 because the 960 doesn't have a wide enough memory bus to actually use 4GB of VRAM xD Also, the R9 380 tends to be cheaper. The Q6600 is still a capable CPU :P

Get a 380 over a 960, same price, better performance.

The cpu is fine, its not great, but it won't bottleneck a 380.

Make sure to upgrade the powersupply, the ones that come with prebuilts tend to be only just enough for the components that ship in the system, so getting a beefy gpu in there will mean you'll get some wicked mad BSOD's at load.
