Naming of things

How do companies name there stuff. Like AMD names their cores after pacific islands (Hawaii, Tonga etc.). nVidia uses names (Maxwell, Pascal etc.) and Apple uses god know what (Lion, Maverick, El Capitan). Like what is going on. Who comes up with these names?!

Do you play football/soccer?

Yea, although it technically follows the original forum title to post an off-topic response to a posting in off-topic, I think once the off-topic topic has been set by the OP, it's probably rude to hijack the thread into another topic.  Or post random things (unless that *is* the topic... ;) )

They abbreviate what has come to their mind in the time eg: AMD =  Always munching durries
