Question about 2.1 audio

I'm looking at this set of 2.1 cheap speakers from Edifier and my question is will this be compatible with my gigabyte board? because the specs sheet says that it only supports 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel. But I was thinking, since it supports 5.1 shouldn't 2.1 support be a given? i'm not an audiphille so i'm not too sure about all these things. Thanks

Yes this is a very simplified approach to a "2.1" setup. That motherboard is going to work just fine.
