yes

Actually, it most likely will be less noticeable, because Netflix will give you higher quality video with a better internet, causing the same issue.

He put yes to the question at the end. "will the lag be less noticeable?"  Do you mean it will most likely not be less noticeable? The first part of your sentence contradicts the last part.

Still, 50/5 can handle a 4k Netflix stream. Hell, 25mbps can handle Netflix, YouTube, and CSGO all at once.

But, I have my playback settings to default the video to medium bitrate, so therefore it should not make the bitrate higher. Correct?

My parent like to watch Netflix endlessly, which in turn gives me awful ping spikes. We currently have 15down and 1up. So the question is when we upgrade soon to 50down and 5up, will the lag be less noticeable?

Yes, the higher speed should help with ping spikes and lag/latency.

However, if you really want to make sure the problem doesn't come back, you should manually configure the QoS settings on your Router. Give whatever game/games you play a higher priority over Netflix - but also make sure Netflix is still fairly high priority compared to other things. You don't want downloads to get higher priority over video streaming, for example.

You need to learn what QoS is. then configure it so you can both use the internet and have good connections.

EDIT: oh, your in the states, just limit netflix to like 1/1mbps and claim it is comcast being shitty or somthing.

I concur the answer is actually QoS settings and prioritising UDP packets generally as a first step. This would give you back much of the performance even on the older connection and its the most important thing to get right when gaming and other stuff on the same connection.

That is what I ended up doing. :) I set Netflix playback settings to low on all accounts. It looks like 480p now with about 1mbps.

My current router doesn't support it. But, I ordered a new modem and router to go along with my better connection.

What router do you have? Can you use a QoS feature to dedicate most of the bandwidth to your gaming & limit the bandwidth able to be used by netflix?

Hahah. Your poor, poor parents.

I watch Netflix a lot, too. If I found out my son did that to me (even though I play games, too) I'd wring his neck! :)
