I am in the final phase of acquiring new heaphones to replace my g35 headset.

In the process I listened to multiple heaphones. I noticed that multiple open back headphones give me a headache. Some more an some less but all of them do.

I read some thinned about getting used to heaphones but is it really that normal to get a headache so terrible you have to stop listening?

(Both my current amp and headphones were damaged on arrival and I will have to RMA anyways. Just want to tell you about them it I don't think it is to blame any of those two factors since I listened to working combos of headphones and amps and got the same result a HEADACHE even though they sounded very pleasant.)

I might add that the most open I listened to regularly before this were the apple ear plugs. Other than that only closed: Logitech g35 and Bose AE2 (by regularly I mean on a daily basis and by that I mean I own both of those)

Overly bright? Other than that, I can't think of a reason besides you being a freak of nature.

I perceive them as sounding by far more natural( concerning instruments especially) than my previous headphones or what do you mean by bright. I just assume you mean the highs being to bright?

I get headaches with closed back ones cos the pressure builds up in my head and it hurts.  Open backs don't have that problem, and unless the sound is overly..."bright" then maybe.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

To be more specific:

I experienced it the most with Grado's heaphones(equally as mic for the SR 60&80&125/e)

Also with the beyerdynamic dt880 and the defective 990s I have now.

Try a Sennheiser in your budget.

Please define bright. I just assumed what you meant with that "audiophile-term" but you never confirmed anything.

Edit: I experience the headache thing less but still noticeable even when not playing music, but not with the closed back heaphones (if I haven't posted this yet)

It's not an audiophile term, just part of the basic vocabulary for describing sound. Bright means there is a lot of highs frequencies e.g. treble.

Bright basically means high amounts of treble, it could be that your ears are sensitive to high levels of treble so it causes discomfort, especially if the sounds get shill

I tried senheiser. They sound unnatural to me and more like I went to a concert with foam in my ears.

I would have recommended Sennies as well, to hear you say they sound unnatural is very strange considering their HD line is very good at the concert hall feel. Which Sennies did you try?

How about testing the AD900X?

I tried the 598 and 558 (I think). The strange thing is they sounded very different. A lot more than people tell them to be. The were about 180€ and 120€ if that helps both were black grey ish. I found electronic music to be boring with them and voice to be unnatural compared to the Grado SR60 I tried that day too.

Sadly I don't know any place where I could try audio technical headphones. It's hard to find good shops for specific things here in Germany or at least in my region.

Have you ever questioned that you have your headphones too loud and giving you self a headache.

Well, with the grados I turned the volume up so I couldn't listen to every word that people said 10 meters away in a very quiet room anymore. So I do not really consider that loud. I also get that uncomfortable when just wearing said cans. Even when not playing anything. Consider that. I think at least overall volume might not be my issue. The high treble sound very likely.

Yea, a lot of people who haven't heard both the 558/598 will read that they use the same drivers and thus automatically must sound 99% the same, right? Nope. It makes me cringe sometimes, but a LOT post that here. Experience > someone who has NO experience posting about what they read from someone else who read from someone else, etc. etc.

In fairness though, if you were willing to, you can mod the 558, but most people that buy the 558 bought them because they can't afford higher and don't want to attempt an accidental breaking of their new headphones.

Have you tried making the move to closed cans with leather pads? On the cheaper end but really good, maybe the NVX XPT100.

It could be your head doesn't like being clamped by headphones? You might want to look at something that are literally cushions on your head like the Sony MA900 (RIP that headphone, though you can prob find it floating somwhere)

Also don't even attempt to get an AT full size can.  If what we are presuming is true and you are particularly sensitive to high frequencies, AD-anything is going to blow your brains apart.

Well from what I tried music wise the soundstage is way larger on open back headphones. In that respect the Grados were unbeatable. What I am looking for is a replacement for my current g35 and I though I might better get something open now. I will use them for gaming mostly but in also music whenever I have the time and need for some Nils Landgren ...

Take a look at the sony mdr-ma900, super light and nearly no clamping force. I used to get headaches from wearing headphones until I got this pair.

Compared to my other two old competitors my 990 editions are not clamping notice ale hard. They are very comfortable. Even more than my nose ae2 which I consider the most comfortable heaphones I have ever worn.

Again, the clamping factor really doesn't seem to be the issue as the are very comfortable and less clamping than my other ear cans.

I tried the custome one pro line and they were fine. ... Wait I just looked up their frequency response on headphone.com and well, realised why...

The "shit" all over the treble. :/ idk what to do now.
