So I'm still considering doing Folding but I'm not really feeling comfortable letting my PC run for 10-11 hours doing folding.

So I have 2 questions:

- Is it possible to let the folding program stop at a given time?

- Is it possible to let my PC shut down shortly after the folding has stopped (To let it cool down)

If there is no software for this I guess I could just teamviewer into my PC and shut it down that way. (Although I'd like it to be automated since busy at work soon)

Thanks in advance!

There is a finish button that will end F@H after it finishes the current work unit.  Your computer will then quit utilizing GPU and CPU so they will cool down to normal operating temps.  I have done this, but my computer won't go to sleep until I end F@H in the task manager.  Haven't really looked into if there is another way or not.

I'd probably let it run for 4-5 hours a day, I assume I can get more than 1 WU done in that time with my 780ti ?

It depends on the WU you get, but yes I would say its attainable.  The longest WU I have had with my 980ti was 5 plus hours.  Most are around 1.5 - 3 hrs.

Oh damn, didn't know they would take that long!

If I stop the folding in the middle of doing a WU. What happens then? (I'm a total noob at folding so sorry if I ask stupid questions :P )

You can pause the WU as I have done several times.  It usually waits until you proceed again.  You will usually lose some credit on that WU, but if you pause long enough I THINK that work unit will be reassigned and you will lose any credit you may have on it.

Yes, WUs have a deadline. If you don't meet the deadline, you'll be granted no points for the WU regardless of progress on it.

And do you know what the time of the deadline is?

And do you know what the time of the deadline is?

The projects listing page lists the time of the preferred turnaround time as well as the deadline (the point at which they pass it to someone else and you get no credit), just look at your summary screen for the WU, get the project #, and look it up in this table: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html

As for running it for a set amount of time every day, the faster you turn a work unit in, the more points you get for it.  If you pause your system, you increase the time until the final result is delivered, and hence your credit will be lower than it otherwise would have been.

But if you want some way of limiting how much folding your system does, You could, for example, schedule your system to start FAHControl at 4am every day, and then press the FINISH or PAUSE button when you get up in the morning.  I'm pretty sure there are commands to automate it, but I am not familiar with them.
