Windows 10 Stuck on Threshold Update

Go to solution Solved by Sharp_3yE,

No, no external memory plugged in. Would my phone count though? That's currently plugged in. Everything else is just the printer, scanner, mouse and keyboard.

Edit: Going to hard shut down and unplug the phone and see what happens.

you may want to unplug the printer and scanner just in case. Microsoft knows of this bug. If you are on the insider program you should also stop insider preview builds. Then try updating.

Windows Update got the new Windows 10 threshold update. On my PC, it's currently stuck at 32% on the main circle with 6% on installing features and drivers.

Should I force shut down the PC or let it keep going? It's been stuck on this step for two hours.

By comparison, my laptop already installed and updated with the same update after I had started it on my PC. My laptop only took about 15 minutes to update.

Do you have any external memory plugged into the pc, maybe a SD card or something?

Happened on my surface 3. To fix this, take out any external media such as SD cards

Yeah, I unplugged everything but the keyboard and mouse and it worked. The scary bit though is that I came back to a black screen. I did force shut down my PC, and when it started up again, the update did install correctly. I'm not sure why it came to a black screen before though.

That kind of thing has happened to me before as well. I unplugged things on my PC and some update or what ever I was doing worked. It's not uncommon for that to happen.

Well, new strange issue, PC shuts down to a black screen, but doesn't actually turn off. It stays at the black screen then PC restarts on its own. I'm guessing it's some sort of driver issue (even if I unplug the phone). Also, my PC will fail to turn on if my phone is plugged in. weird.

Should I suck it up and clean install windows again? I just clean installed it last month due to a failing graphics driver update.

Try clearing the CMOS first. Basically it sets your bios to default settings. Make sure everything is updated as well.

Yeah, CMOS reset didn't do anything. (I hoped it would though...getting tired of having to unplug my phone to turn the PC on)

What is different is that I do get an actual bluescreen now when shutting down (even with my phone unplugged). Driver Power State Failure. I tried to use that BSOD reporting utility on the sticky for this forum, but it locked up (stuck at building windows reports...for over 24 hours). I'm debating if I should just clean install Windows again or if I should go driver hunting for the driver giving me issues (I'm thinking it's the Nokia N9 driver, Intel Rapid Storage Technology, or the chipset driver).

The other strange issue is that on Task Manager, the process "System and compressed memory" is constantly running at 40-50% CPU usage on my 2500K at 4.6GHz. I've never had this happen before the threshold update.

You should have only needed to plug your phone when you updated it. You may want to fresh install then. There is some weird stuff going on that is hard to figure out without being at your PC. A fresh install should solve it though. Since it's Windows 10, you don't need any key when installing it. It should automatically become activated.
