Just noticed the margin bar thing is screwed up, moving it to one side doesn't really help, it just makes one side way bigger and makes the other unusuable

That looks like you have columns of sort there. Select all and under style you get to menu where you can select between two or single column.

You can use Office online for free. Just login to your Microsoft account (hotmail, live. outlook.com, msdn, etc.), and go to OneDrive, upload the file, and you can open it and edit it.

It's not the full version of Word/PowerPoint/Excel, but should have the features you need, and save it so that everything is fine.

 

If you are a student, you can see if you have Office 365 for free waiting for you.

Ask your school IT department. If they don't know or don't have, but you have your school e-mail, you can check here if Microsoft manages it for your school instead (and register and have it): https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/education/products/office/default.aspx

Try to cpy everything and paste in new document. Don't have my Ubuntu open to verify if this will work, but try to paste without formatting. It will remove everything else fancy that you have there. But might also do the trick.
