@LinusTech

after seeing a recent wan show episode on youtube. you brought up something i found interesting that you didnt have multiple pieces of one bit of high end hardware that you constantly swap to different pieces of hardware and that you didnt keep the gear given to you permanently and free that was supplied by dbrand for scrapyard wars.

Two questions:

I get why review hardware has to be returned, but why hardware from sponsors if they sponsor your shouldnt you keep the stuff the give no more money given or do sponsor contracts primarily provide temporary hardware(which feels wrong to me but who am i to talk)?

arent you worried by swapping stuff constantly for new builds rather than have multiples that the stuff will break from being moved and reused too much?

That sentence though

In response to the last part- shit breaks. It's life. They are as careful as linus can be (not that careful) and if something breaks they need, buying a new one is an unfortunate business expense if they feel a replacement for that exact part is 100% necessary.

For example, given they have only 1 titan x and it breaks, first warranty, but given that doesn't work or is too time consuming, and they need it for a benchmark, I imagine they would decide to buy another.

More confusing to read was the problem, I think I got it now.

Um like are you talking about the macbooks and phones by dbrand?

I'm sure they pay a ton for the sponsor spot, and the purpose of it is to showcase dbrand products. So they need to use something that showcases it.

It's like of like that Burger King product placement in Iron Man, if at the beginning of the movie Tony Stark said "This movie is brought to you by Burger King, who provided the Whopper in the scene that I return to the states and bitch for a real American Cheeseburger"

Why would debrand want used hardware that loses a huge chunk of its value by being used back. (PCes have nasty depreciation)

And I want to see that cut of iron man now...

idk to use them in other product placement? Use them around the office? (And apple products have great resale prices)

Burn them in bondfire?

I guarantee what they pay LMG is a hell of a lot more than the value of that hardware. If not Linus should just torch the place and open a muffin shop.

Using the hardware is just part of the placement deal, and it what dbrand thinks will help push their product.

BDrand doesn't resell the sponsor-provided or review hardware. Even if it's something they only provide to Linus for a temporary period, and take back.

Usually, they will send them out in cycles:

1st goes to Linus, then Austin, then Jay, etc.

They will also use that hardware at public events, marketing events, trade shows, etc.

And finally, they'll probably give them to employees to use, once the product has no final value as a "show piece". Some companies may even sell old hardware to their employees for steep discounts.

Sponsored hardware is a bit different than review hardware. SOME OF IT they keep to keep, for ever. Some of the hardware, however, is a specific time period, during which they are "sponsored" (For example, for use at CES shows only).
