Hi guys!

I'm looking for a HDD silencer. What I need is not only to stop vibrations passing to the case, but I want the HDD spining noise to get quiter too.

There isn't too much that can be done about spinning noise of the HDD as long as it's not a grinding or ticking sound which could signal a dying HDD.

The best way to prevent vibration is using rubber grommented screws, I currently have my hard drive cage mounted with heavy duty velcro to the case itself which pretty much prevents all vibrations to the case.

My case is Define R3. I'm not gonna switch to the newest version, the reset button on the top bugs me too much. I also just bought a windowed panel for it. I'm not doing some voodoo DIY stuff with rubber. I want to buy a HDD box that you put into 5,25" bay and that really works. (*Can't buy Scythe Himuro where I live, so don't tell me to buy it.*) What is the best HDD silencer/box thingy besides Himuro?

I had an idea of a mod you can do with an old dvd/cd

1. take all the stuff (save the lazer!) from the dvd you will be left with metal 5.25 bay 'case' empty inside

2. put foam and stuff in there

3. put your hdd in there

use HD greens because they are apparently quieter and cooler

Velcro isn't that great at stopping vibrations in my experience... I used it to mount an MCP655 pump to my chassis and the chassis just acted like an amplifier...

I wasn't going to comment that this will cook your HDDs, but with greens this might actually work :)

I actually do have some old 5,25" CD/DVD drives. But, my HDD is Hitachi 7200RPM. I don't want it to burn, I don't have money to buy a second one for backing up this one.

There are some rubber things on drive sleds in R3, not really working.
