The report rate or polling rate is how many times per second a device sends information. For example, mice tend to have report rates from 125Hz to 1000Hz. The higher the report rate, the more responsive the device will be. Over a 500Hz report rate makes a small difference, but the higher the better. 

 

I personally use 1000Hz on my mouse.
