Hello guys

I am planning a pc upgrade, i currently own an FX 9370 oc-d to 4.9 Ghz, an ASRock 990fx extreme 6 mobo and a gtx 960. I am planning to buy another 960 and putting them in sli and i was just thinking about that will my cpu bottleneck those gpus?

Probably would be a minor bottleneck but I really wouldn't do SLI 960s it's a waste of money

Multi-GPU setups are weak on AMD's side simply because the PCIE lanes are handled by the chipset and not by the CPU itself.

 

While you do have a decent chipset that can sustain both cards I would not personally do it.

 

If your current performance feels adequate enough for you then i'd say go for it.

960 SLI is among the most pointless things imaginable. 970 or 980 are MUCH more reasonable

remember that Nvidia rates their GPUs SLI by running 2x PCIe Gen2 8x ports.

the 990FX chipset can handle 2x PCIe Gen2 16x CF (CF uses PCIe bus for all data on GCN 1.1 and 1.2 cards. GCN 1.0 cards and earlier, in addition to SLI uses the bridge)

what that means is; it will handle SLI or CF just fine.

 

the issue is not the chipset controller in terms of SLI/CF, its the abyssmal IPC of Piledriver based CPUs...

You should buy a 970 or 980Ti after you sell your current 960! :3
