Power Surges?!?!?!?

I have a UPS on all my computers in my house and starting about a week ago while I am sleeping I can hear my UPS clicking when there is a surge of power and it is protecting my PC. This happens on all UPSs so I know it isn't a faulty one. We haven't had any storms and we use Excel Energy for electricity. It isn't a problem but it concerns me with other appliances and why it is happening. It happens about 5 times an hour.

Just keeping this here as a I have a UPS on all my computers in my house and starting about a week ago while I am sleeping I can hear my UPS clicking when there is a surge of power and it is protecting my PC. This happens on all UPSs so I know it isn't a faulty one. We haven't had any storms and we use Excel Energy for electricity. It isn't a problem but it concerns me with other appliances and why it is happening. It happens about 5 times an hour.  

sounds similar to my old problem. my problem was that i still had arc breakers and just changed those out. i was getting like 3-5 outages an hour

If you have very unstable power in your area or home that's not unheard of, depending on the UPS some come with software and data cable to let you modify it's sensitivity to theses occurrences so they don't constantly switch on and off the battery backup system.

Well you see my lights flicker as well and I have never had this problem before. I think I might call my energy provider even though they will say nothing is wrong

Well you see my lights flicker as well and I have never had this problem before. I think I might call my energy provider even though they will say nothing is wrong

 

Hmm it sounds like possibly noisy power coming into your home or really large changes in voltage in the home or around your area, most UPS have a automatic voltage regulator which can do +/-10% of the base voltage so that might be what your hearing clicking, the relays switching on that feature if the battery backup isn't coming on itself and completely disconnecting itself.
