Hey guys

I have been going on about this for a very long time and I was wondering what is the best wireless pc adapter I could by. Should I get a USB or PCI (-E)? I've been asking people who have brought them, but it is a mixed back of reviews. I don't know much about my router, but it is a "Sky" one and one the Sky Hub Admin page it says 2.4GHz Wireless (Settings)

If you have a wireless USB or PCI (-E) that work well for gaming, YouTube and the rest, then please let me know. I currently get about 8 ping, 16.23 Mbps download and 0.93 upload.

Thanks  :)

I used a PCIe based wireless card and loved it. Bought that shit off of Newegg for like $15. Worked like a beast,

Can i ask why you arent using a cable?

If you play multi-player games online, ping is everything. Everything. If you can get a friggin' 8ms ping to a game server, don't add a Wi-Fi to the system. But I'm assuming that 8ms is to a speedtest.net server or such?

Anyhoo... If you know how to, you can connect your phone to the router via Wi-Fi and then use your PC to ping the phone's IP to get a ballpark of the addition to the ping you'll be looking at. This assumes you have a somewhat recent smartphone that won't bottleneck the test but the router will.

Given that your connection is kinda crappy, it doesn't really matter which receiver you choose. They're all good enough for those speeds. Going from Ethernet to Wi-Fi, things can only get worse anyway. Even a 100m long Ethernet cable beats any Wi-Fi any day in all aspects, except installation, perhaps.

A device would give better local speeds, so if you have a home server  or something similar you connect to regularly and need the connection to be fast, then you should consider the best option, otherwise go for the cheapest.

- A 802.11N USB dongle will do for most cases. Just get it from a respected manufacturer like TP-Link, Asus, Buffalo and so on. Ping-wise and range-wise it's a worst-case scenario but easy to install and use. There's no difference between USB 2.0 or 3.0.

- A 802.11N PCI-E or PCI card will also be fine. If you wan't the ability to upgrade the antennas later on, this'll be your best bet. It won't be any faster thou and a hassle to install, your display cables are likely to get in the way of the antennas and so on. And again, no difference in speed between PCI-E or PCI.

- You said your router is 2,4GHz so dual band 802.11N and 802.11AC are out of the question. (They operate at 5GHz) Both would get you better ping, better speeds in local network, better range, more error tolerance and so on. But they need the router to match the receiver. And again, given your WAN speeds, they'd be overkill.

I currently use WiFi so they were my WiFi speeds on my laptop. Should I get a 150mbps or 300mbps?

I used THIS one. Its a cheaper one and does not have AC wifi ability. You may be better off getting one with more antennas and maybe AC capabilities for improved connectivity.
