Come on ! It's his first Android phone so don't start with Android apps for experienced users. I think you probably have them installed but you should get the regular Facebook, Twitter, YouTube apps. Then, as it has been metionned above SD maid, but I personally use CleanMaster to optimize the phone performance. Then I strongly recommend Pocket that allows you read articles and web content offline.
