Monitor can't find my PC

CaptainWaffles
Go to solution Solved by CaptainWaffles,

I put in a GPU and then swapped out the Ram and it worked. Thanks for all the advice :)

I got my PC to turn on. But, my monitor is not recognizing my PC. I tried with DVI, VGA, and HDMI. When I plug in my laptop to my monitor, it does recognize my laptop. So far I think it is my PC problem. I don't think its my motherboard because it is powering my PC and the fans are rotating. Could it be my CPU? Do I need a graphics card for a display to pop up? All advice is welcome.

EDIT: Could it be because I need a graphics card? I also tried a CMOS Jumper Reset (I took out that circle battery on the MOBO for 15 minutes) but nothign happened.

Could it be your GPU? Most monitor-related problems normally are.

he got no GPU yet

he running from the mobo

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

you should at least see the mobo screen

i know you have build the PC

but you might have to take the board out and test the mobo on the box itself

this is to rule out shortings

How do I test the motherboard? When I do it do I keep stuff like RAM and CPU.

reset the cmos on the pc. make it hook to the MB and bypass the card if possible ( bios setting ).

In theory yes, in practicality no.

That's why they release a QVL for each motherboard that's released. This is ram they themselves have tested and have got working fully. It will also show what timings, volts, speeds, size of the modules (2GB, 4GB, 8GB...) and how many modules were used and in what slot.

It's not a race to the bottom.

Well I don't have a graphics card yet (still in the mail). Do I need one even thought intel has integrated graphics.

Definitely, Intel integrated graphics are complete crap, it likely would not be able to run portal 2 at 60 FPS.

No you don't, but once you have your card you're going to have to use the cards display ports

Can you list your parts please :D it would be helpful

If you want, you can try to clear the cmos

i tried this by unplugging the battery for 15 minutes and then putting it back on. I'm not sure how do to it the way it says in the manual. There are only 2 pins on the MOBO and there is no jumper (the little thing that you put around 2 pins).

So, I'm guessing it didn't work huh?

If this is your first build, did you put in the cpu correctly?

Ram seated in properly? Tested each ram stick?

Beyond this, I would just RMA everything...
