I am building a pc and I need to know what gpu to get before cyber monday but I have no idea which one to get. A detailed explanation would be nice as opposed to just which one is better. Keep in mind I will be playing at 1080p but with texture packs and mods and I don't want to have to upgrade for at least 4-5 years.

I may be upgrading to 1440p in a few years but is a minor thing

I am not sure because I have asked on different forums but I get both gtx 970 and r9 390. Some people say the r9 8gb is very helpful and will be better long term but others say the gtx 3.5gb will be just fine for now and the future as well as things like gameworks

My budget is 300-350

$300-$350 for the gpu?  And which currency.

PS, dont use the same title for similar questions, change it to "GPU Question" so it wont look like your spamming the same exact question.  You can do this by clicking "Edit" on the first post and at the bottem, click "Use Full Editor", from there, you can change the title at the top.

Okay i got a few gpus picked out.

Questions:

1.  Do you want any specific color for the gpu?  PS, list 2 colors.  (it can help narrow down the list).

2.  Do you want to overclock the gpu?  (yes, no, maybe)

3.  Are you okay with LED's on the gpu?

1. I have a black and blue build so a black or blue card, if necessary, I can paint the card (not preferable)

2. Overclock- maybe (If I do, in the future if the card starts to fall behind on performance)

3. I don't mind leds as long as they are not too bright or too many

They LED's may be bright.

The gpus are the Gigabyte R9 390, Gigabyte G1 R9 390, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970, Gigabyte G1 Windforce GTX 970.

Yes they are all Gigabyte but at least that is a great company (one of, if not, the best in my opinion).  The r9 390s are both close to $300 but have two fans while the gtx 970s are closer to $330-$350 but have three fans.  "Will the extra fan make a difference in cooling" you might ask and that is a yes.  With the G1 options, i hear they are better overclockers so considering you might do that, i advise the G1 version (i think they might be better for regular performance but i dont know/ recall if this is true).

So down to the R9 390 vs GTX 970 again...  I still advise the gtx 970.

Look, you got to be installing alot of mods for just 4gb vram to get used up...  One person i know had 36 mods on Skyrim and it did not go through their 4gb vram...  If you are doing more mods than that and such, yeah, get the r9 390 and hope amd fixes the fps issue.  If you are not that crazy with mods, easily go 970, like ive said before.  Another option is wait a week and see if amd fixed it yet, might help the decision making.  Just try to not make more topics than you need to even though i should follow this rule but i still have broken it.

Alright, and dont worry, the 970 is still a great card (i like the reference blower design and Gigabyte windorce versions).

As for how long the card lasts, this is unknown but i would estimate awhile still (both cards).
