I have a ASRock Extreme 3 and a Pentium G3258, I have gotten 4 GHz with 1.250 volts, can I get a better clock and how can lower the voltage? I am on the stock cooler.

On stock cooler i can reach 4.4ghz at 1.3 with no heat issues. I now use a hyper 212 evo and im at 4.9ghz at 1.37v it gets warm though.

1.25v seems a little high for 4ghz. I was able to hit 4ghz with 1.12v. Make sure you start your CPU overclocking with your memory running at its default speed. You can find this by clearing CMOS, and not loading any XMP profiles. Then start overclocking your CPU 100mhz at a time, and running LinX for 15 minutes to make sure each 100mhz overclock is semi-stable. Once you crash on LinX, apply slightly more voltage, and try again.

Once you hit the wall (the point where you have to apply far more voltage for the next 100mhz than you had to apply for the last 100mhz) you stop. Remember, no two CPU's overclock the same. It's all luck of the draw. I was able to overclock to 3.8ghz on stock VID voltage (1.080v) and it be 8 hour prime95 stable. Some fail to hit 3.6ghz on stock VID.
